Life is like a box of cars. Colorful ones.
Pegasus is a comedic drama film about rally racing and the pursuit of long lost dreams. The film follows a washed up, overaged, and now disqualified professional rally racer; his defeated dreams and passions, and what’s left of his life.
Director Han Han wanted the design of the rally cars to reflect the humor of the story and the spectrum of emotions in the character’s rocky life. Designs of rally cars were inspired by Japanese manga comics in the 1990s, melodic karaoke songs, and the extravagant graphic language of racing culture.
As the story of racing was a microcosm to the larger story of the protagonist’s life, the designs of the cars were counter-parts to their respective drivers, and needed to communicate different attitudes towards life. Some passionate, some calm, but all worth a ride.
